Greener Waterway Infrastructure (Green WIN) is an Interreg North West Europe (NWE) funded project, running from November 2018 to June 2023. It tackles the excess energy use and high carbon emissions Waterway Management Organisations (WMO’s) cause when pumping water around the region’s rivers and canals. The project partnership is made up of WMO’s, Universities, Public Service Organisations and Inland Waterways experts from across NWE and is committed to working together to find solutions to this problem.

CRT manage 3,200km miles of historic waterways across England and Wales and are responsible for the network of bridges, towpaths, embankments, aqueducts, docks and reservoirs and hundreds of important wildlife sites. They maintain wildlife habitats to maintain the distinctive infrastructure of the network of canals and rivers.

Waterways Ireland is responsible for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of the inland navigable waterway system throughout the island of Ireland, principally for recreational purposes.

RWS is a governmental agency within the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment in the Netherlands, responsible for management and development of the national water system and facilitating the inland shipping transport on this network. RWS is also responsible for management and development of the national highway network in the Netherlands.

The group Hydraulics in Environment and Civil Engineering (HECE) at Universié de Liège has been active for 20 years in teaching, as well as basic and applied research in hydraulic engineering, fluvial hydraulics and flood risk.

VNF is responsible for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of the 6,700 km of inland navigable waterways in France, for freight and recreational purposes.
