De Vlaamse Waterweg recently produced a video promoting their VisuRIS website www.visuris.be which provides a wide range of River Information Services (RIS) to their boaters.
VisuRIS is an application providing a wealth of information about freight shipping on Flemish inland waterways. It sets out the characteristics of the waterways, bridges, locks, water levels, messages for skippers, operating times, an up-to-date traffic information.
Of use to recreational boaters as well, RIS is a package of diverse services designed to optimise the traffic and transport process and to ensure safety is improved and efficiency increased. It streamlines the exchange of information between managers and users of the waterway using a uniform communication standard developed for this purpose. As a result, traffic management on European inland waterways is better coordinated. RIS also enables better transport management by exchanging transport and logistics which strengthens the competitive position of inland shipping.
